Orlando Ballet’s “The Nutcracker” Features Live Music, Digital Projections, and More
Orlando Ballet is taking its 45 years of experience performing “The Nutcracker” to new heights by featuring live accompaniment from the young, aspiring artists of the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestras (FSYO), and more than 150 Orlando Ballet School students. Patrons attending the Dr. Phillips Center performances will marvel at the brand-new digital projections and animations used to bring the Land of Sweets to life in the second act. In addition to the performances at the Dr. Phillips Center, hour-long “Nutcracker Suite” performances will take place throughout Central Florida.
Orlando Ballet is once again partnering with FSYO for the two-weekend run of “The Nutcracker.” In previous seasons, FSYO has provided live accompaniment for Orlando Ballet’s Family Weekend. FSYO will perform the entire run of “The Nutcracker” full-length mainstage performances at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts this season.
To provide patrons with more opportunities to see the show, Orlando Ballet will be touring locally with its “Nutcracker Suite” performances at Windermere Preparatory School and Athens Theatre in DeLand, Fla. The “Nutcracker Suite” performances are condensed one-hour versions of the holiday classic, perfect for families with children of all ages. The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts will also offer special one-hour performances of “The Nutcracker Family Show.”
Guests of Orlando Ballet’s annual event, The Nutcracker Tea, lets attendees enjoy holiday treats and interact with Nutcracker characters at Orlando Ballet’s brand new home, Harriett’s Orlando Ballet Centre, on Sunday, December 8. The Nutcracker Tea is the signature fundraiser for Orlando Ballet’s school and enrichment programs and also supports dance scholarships.
During the 2019-20 season, Orlando Ballet is showcasing the talent of its Orlando Ballet School students with opportunities to perform in mainstage productions alongside the professional company. Orlando Ballet School students play a significant part in “The Nutcracker” production, and more than 150 student dancers will take on roles such as angels, mice, toy soldiers, and siblings Clara and Fritz. Orlando Ballet School students also have the unique opportunity to perform in other Orlando Ballet productions this season such as “Cinderella,” and “Mowgli, The Jungle Book.”
Orlando Ballet has a new opportunity for supporters to sponsor their favorite dancer this season. Sponsorship benefits include special behind-the-scenes events, program recognition, backstage tours, and more.
